New ads encourage continued bipartisan support for legislation that will help reduce plastic waste

WASHINGTON,D.C., July 9, 2026 — The Recycling Leadership Council (RLC) today announced a new six-figure digital ad buy to encourage continued bipartisan support for the Recycled Materials Attribution Act (RMAA) to help address the plastic waste challenge. The ads will reach 10 members of Congress in their states and districts over the next month.
With passage of the legislation being considered in the House, the ads underscore the critical role the RMAA will play in establishing uniform definitions for recycling to reduce consumer confusion, unlock innovation and keep products affordable.
“Plastic is integral to our everyday lives, but recycling it remains a challenge. American needs a commonsense solution that brings clarity, consistency, accountability and innovation to America’s recycling system,” said John Hewitt, senior vice president of the Consumer Brands Association and spokesperson for the Recycling Leadership Council. “The RMAA has momentum for a reason — because it will help consumers and companies recycle more of what they want to recycle, keep waste out of landfills and our environment, and put America at the forefront of innovation.”
The legislation is supported by a diverse coalition of consumer brands, packaging leaders, recyclers, and manufacturers who emphasize that clear national standards for marketing of recycled content are critical to unlocking innovation in America’s recycling system that will allow companies to recover and reuse more materials and keep them out of landfills. According to a recently released report by the Progressive Policy Institute, emerging recycling technology could more than double U.S. plastic recycling rates and save states and local municipalities hundreds of millions of dollars per year.
The ads thank the following House and Senate cosponsors for supporting the legislation:
● Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-NY)
● Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX)
● Rep. Don Davis (D-NC)
● Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX)
● Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX)
● Rep. Jonathan Jackson (D-IL)
● Sen. John Curtis (R-UT)
The ads also encourage the following policymakers who have not yet taken a position on the bill to offer their support:
● Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY)
● Sen. Todd Young (R-IN)
● Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV)
