ARLINGTON, VA – Today, the Recycling Leadership Council (RLC), released the following statement from John Hewitt, RLC spokesperson and senior vice president of packaging and sustainability at the Consumer Brands Association, ahead of Tuesday’s House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade markup hearing on the Recycled Materials Attribution Act (RMAA):
“Today, a patchwork of state rules and outdated definitions stifles recycling rates and results in too much plastic going to landfills, but Congress has a historic opportunity to change that. The RMAA fixes that with one clear national standard for recycled-content claims while supporting innovation by recognizing newer recycling technologies that can process materials traditional methods cannot. This bill is a practical, bipartisan step toward keeping everyday products affordable for American families. We thank the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade for prioritizing this issue and urge members on both sides of the aisle to advance this bipartisan solution.”
