68% Support the Bipartisan RMAA, Rising to 84% After Learning More; 59% More Likely to Vote for a Member Who Backs It

ARLINGTON, Va., The Recycling Leadership Council (RLC) today released a new national survey finding that voters overwhelmingly support the Recycled Materials Attribution Act (RMAA) as a commonsense way to keep costs of everyday products down while reducing plastic waste, and are ready to reward members of Congress who back it.
The poll of 1,039 likely general election voters found that 68% support the RMAA once it is described to them, while just 11% oppose it, and support holds across party lines at wide margins. Among voters who name affordability as their top issue, support for the RMAA reaches 90%.
The RMAA would establish uniform national recycling definitions, reduce consumer confusion, enable innovative technologies to reduce waste, create good-paying jobs and protect affordability.
"Republican, Democrat and independent voters alike back the RMAA because it helps protect affordability, and they see lawmakers who support it as practical problem solvers. With affordability at the top of voters' minds, the RMAA delivers a consistent uniform standard for recycled-content claims, reduces plastic waste and helps keep everyday products affordable. Congress should pass it without delay," said John Hewitt, Senior Vice President, Consumer Brands Association and Spokesperson, Recycling Leadership Council.
The poll finds that support for the RMAA resonates with voters and offers lawmakers a political advantage.
● 59% of voters say they are more likely to vote for a candidate for Congress who voted to support the RMAA.
● 82% of voters are more likely to support the RMAA bill when they hear it would help keep products affordable by creating regulatory consistency for businesses and limiting excessive regulatory costs.
● 78% agree that candidates who support the bill are pragmatic problem solvers, balancing real environmental concern with support for innovation, job creation and affordability.
